Terms of use

KARE is built and run by one person, not a company. These terms are an agreement between you and me, KARE (operator name to be confirmed) ("KARE", "I", "me"), about using KARE on the web and on iPhone. By creating an account or using KARE, you agree to them and to the privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use KARE.

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need your parent's or guardian's permission, and they accept these terms for you. You can't use KARE if you have been banned from it before, or if the law forbids you from using it.

Give a real email address you can access, keep your password to yourself, and tell me if you think someone else is using your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Your username must not impersonate someone else or mislead people about who you are. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.

Reviews, diary entries, lists, replies, messages, KAREs and anything else you post stay yours. To run KARE, you give me a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, display and share that content on KARE (including on your profile, title pages and other members' feeds, and in the app), and to adapt its format for different screens. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that other members already hold (for example messages you sent them) and backups that expire on their normal schedule.

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post, including any image you upload. Don't upload images you didn't take or aren't allowed to share, beyond still frames used for commentary and review.

KARE is a place to talk about film. Disagree with opinions, not people. On KARE you must not:

• Harass, bully, threaten or intimidate anyone, or encourage others to
• Post hate speech, or attack people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability or similar characteristics
• Post sexually explicit content, graphic violence, or anything that sexualises minors
• Post anything illegal, or promote illegal activity (including links to pirated films or series)
• Post spoilers without marking them: tick Contains spoilers on reviews and warn before spoiling elsewhere
• Spam, advertise, or post the same thing over and over
• Impersonate another person or organisation, or misrepresent your connection to them
• Share someone else's private information without their permission
• Break or overload KARE, scrape it in bulk, get around blocks or bans, or access accounts that aren't yours

Anyone signed in can Report a review, reply, episode review, list or profile. I read every report myself and aim to review each within 24 hours. When content breaks these terms, I may remove it, restrict features for the account that posted it, or suspend or close that account. Serious breaches (such as threats or content that sexualises minors) can lead to an immediate ban and, where required, a report to the authorities. Accounts that break the rules repeatedly are closed.

I can't review everything before it's posted and don't endorse what members say. If you think I made a mistake, write to me and I'll take another look.

You can block any member from their profile or one of their reviews. Blocking works both ways: neither of you can follow, message, reply to, like or award the other, and follows between you are removed. The other member isn't told. You can unblock at any time.

If you believe something on KARE infringes your copyright, send a notice to [email protected] with:

• Your name and contact details
• The work you say is infringed
• A link to the content on KARE you want removed
• A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent or the law
• A statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them
• Your physical or electronic signature

I remove content when a valid notice shows it infringes, tell the member who posted it, and close the accounts of repeat infringers. A member who thinks their content was removed by mistake can reply to me with an explanation.

Information about films, series, anime and people comes from outside catalogues, chiefly TMDB; where-to-watch information is JustWatch data. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. I don't guarantee that this information is complete or up to date.

KARE links to other sites and services, such as streaming and music services. I don't control them, and their own terms apply when you use them.

KARE does not host, stream or sell any film, series or episode. Trailers play through YouTube, and Where to watch sends you to the services that offer a title.

The core of KARE is free. KARE Pro is an optional paid membership; credits pay for awards. Prices and what's included are shown on the Pro and Credits pages before you pay.

• On the web, payments go through Stripe. A subscription renews until you cancel it; a one-off payment, gift or code adds a fixed amount of Pro time.
• In the iPhone app, when purchases are offered, they go through Apple's In-App Purchase and Apple's terms apply. Manage or cancel them in your Apple ID settings.
• Deleting your KARE account does not cancel a subscription with Stripe or Apple. Cancel it first.
• Credits and awards have no cash value and can't be exchanged or transferred except as KARE allows.

Detailed subscription and refund terms will be added here before paid plans launch; where the law gives you a right to cancel or a refund, that right applies.

I work to keep KARE running well, but it is provided as is and as available. I don't promise that it will always be available, error-free or that content will never be lost, so export anything you want to keep. Content posted by members is their own opinion, not mine. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by law.

To the extent the law allows, KARE is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of KARE, and my total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid me in the 12 months before the claim (or the equivalent of 20 US dollars if you paid nothing). I don't exclude liability where the law doesn't allow it, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or gross negligence.

You can stop using KARE and delete your account at any time from Settings. I may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, puts other members or KARE at risk, or where the law requires it; where appropriate I'll tell you why. If I ever shut KARE down, I will give reasonable notice so you can export your data. Sections that by their nature should continue (such as the content licence for copies others hold, disclaimers and limitation of liability) survive the end of this agreement.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye (to be confirmed). If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you can bring a claim in the courts there.

I may update these terms as KARE changes. I will update the date at the top of this page, and tell you on KARE before a significant change takes effect. If you keep using KARE after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
