A diary and a film club, in one frame.
I built KARE because I wanted one place for everything I watch: a diary that remembers when and how it felt, and a few people to talk to about it afterwards. It's still just me making it. Here's all of it, one part at a time.

A diary that remembers the night, not just the film.
This is where KARE started: I wanted to know what I watched, when, and how I felt about it on the day. Every log is its own entry with a date, so a rewatch sits next to the first time instead of overwriting it.

Series, one episode at a time.
A season isn't a single film, so it shouldn't get a single rating. Every episode of every series and anime has its own page on KARE: rate it, review it, and argue about it underneath with the people who stayed up for it too.

Lists, made alone or with friends. And one canon to argue with.
Rankings, moods, double bills, a director's whole run. Number them or don't, write a note on every title, and invite friends to build one with you. The KARE 1000 is KARE's canon: a thousand films ranked from critics' and filmmakers' all-time lists. It's a real list, so you can like it, argue in its comments, or turn it into a marathon.

Press Start a marathon on any list and it becomes a checklist you work through at your own pace, ticking titles off with a rating and a note. I built it because a list you never get through is only a wish.

Keep the frame that haunts you.
A KARE is a still you upload from something you watched: the frame that stayed with you, and the moment it happens. It stays private until you post it to the feed, and it can become the cover of that night's diary entry. Kare is Turkish for frame, which is where the name came from.

Inspired by Suspiria (1977) - 06 · Friends, messages, replies
Talk about it, with people who care.
Follow anyone whose taste you trust, add friends, and their diaries fill your home page. Replies to reviews are real threads, lists take comments, and when it gets personal there are direct messages. You decide who can reply to you and who can write to you.

Everything about a title, gathered in one place.
Before I press play I want to know three things: is there anything I'd rather be warned about, where can I watch it tonight, and what does it sound like. Every title page answers all three, alongside what members logged, rated and wrote.
- Content warnings answered by members, for a whole title or a single episode, and easy to switch off
- The official soundtrack album with previews, and the songs members add scene by scene

Your diary adds up.
Log enough and patterns appear: the decade you keep drifting back to, the country you didn't know you loved. Achievements mark the milestones, and awards let you tip your hat to a review that got it exactly right. Each badge and award is its own small piece of art, most of them a nod to a film.

Bring your whole history home.
Nobody should have to start their film life over. Drop in your Letterboxd export, your IMDb ratings or your Trakt history and KARE matches it all, dates and reviews included. You check the doubtful matches before anything is saved, and the file itself never leaves your browser.

The best time to log a film is the minute the credits end. KARE already works in any phone browser, with the tabs along the bottom where your thumb is. I'm also building a native iPhone app on the same account. It isn't in the App Store yet; when it is, it'll be the first thing on this page.

The diary, lists, marathons, KAREs, messages and title pages are free, and they stay free. Pro is for people who want more of their own numbers and more say over their profile, and it's what helps pay for the servers. $4.99 a month or $39 a year, and you can give it to a friend.
